I couldn’t do this 20 years ago.


I was a  runner 20 years ago. Pretty much on my way out. I had a strong lower body and a weak upper body.

Today at 62, I can do this.

It is possible for you too! You can start by doing push ups off the wall and then try off the counter and slowly make your way to the floor.

I don’t like them off the knees.

Here are the cues for a great push up.

  • Get into position.
  • Wrist lined up with your arm pits.
  • Back Flat
  • Squeeze your glutes and your quadriceps.
  • Suck in your belly button.

You will do a really strong push up. Push ups are great for your arms, chest and core! You can do them anytime and anywhere! There are so many fun and challenging variations if you get bored with the basics! For another post:)

My Pants Fit!

It is a rainy Friday September morning. I went into my closet and tried on a pair of jeans that I almost gave away last year because they were getting so tight especially around the middle! Is that an issue for you? It doesn’t have to be.

8 minute HIIT

Here is an eight minute HIIT (high intensity interval workout for you). I watch these workouts online , mostly demonstrated by ripped young men. I think it is important for you to know that you can do this as well.  It might not be as pretty at 60 something but I get it down and reap the benefits. I hope I inspire you to give it a try. (I messed up the squat jumps the first time around, just move for those 30 seconds, try jumping jacks:)

Grain Free, Chocolate Peppermint Cookies!

Who doesn’t LOVE cookies? I was surprised how delicious these cookies are. I have been having fun using peppermint extract. It is refreshing in the summer time! There is a little bit of sugar in the dark chocolate bar but when divided up by 24. It doesn’t even count. These cookies will not spike your blood sugar but they are high in fat and calories. Sit down and enjoy one with a cup of tea.

Here is the basic recipe. (I added my own pet touches.)

Chocolate  Cookies
Makes: 24 cookies (I made 12 big cookies:)

Ingredients cookie ingredients

2 sticks organic butter, softened
2⁄3 cup powdered stevia
1 tsp. vanilla extract (I used peppermint extract.)
2 large organic eggs
1 cup almond flour (about ½ cup almonds ground in a coffee grinder) (I used cashew flour, you can also use coconut flour.)
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup  protein powder (I used nutrimeal free.)
1 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
4 oz. chopped dark chocolate
1 cup raw chopped walnuts


Preheat oven to 350° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.

Beat together butter, stevia, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time.
Whisk together almond flour, cocoa powder, protein powder, baking powder, and salt in a separate
bowl. Stir dry ingredients into butter mixture. Stir in chopped walnuts and chocolate until
combined. (I put everything in a bowl and mixed it up with a wooden spoon. It worked. Easy,Peasy)

Spoon heaping teaspoons of batter 2″ apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake 15 minutes, let rest on cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then remove to rack or counter to cool. I wrapped them individually and put them in the freezer. We like to eat them frozen out of the freezer. They are a wonderful treat and they won’t spike your blood sugar.

Try New Things…

Try new things, change in direction…

I have been reading Goddesses Never Age by Christiane Northrup MD. which of course I highly recommend.  This was the first of I am sure many lines that I highlighted. “The anti-aging prescription is to love life, try new things, and savor your experiences.”

I also attempt to sit on my meditation cushion everyday for ten minutes.  (don’t always do it but I think about it.) After my ten minutes are up, I pick an Angel card. Last week, I picked the same card twice! This is from Doreen Virtue, PH.D,  Change in Direction ” The changes you are experiencing are Divinely directed by your newborn willingness to open your heart to love and our guidance. You are protected now and in the future, so follow your path to the happy outcomes you desire.”

So this is what I did. A little scary but I did it. Dan, my husband coached me through it. ” Come on Mare, you have big strong legs, kick them up there!” And so I did! It is always great to have a cheerleader.

Do you tell your age?

As many of you know I have been a member of Team Northrup for 8 years now. Following and being involved with the work of Dr. Northrup and Kate Northrup has been life changing! It is so wonderful to hang out with happy healthy people. You do that and you become one! It is amazing how that works.

“This Changes Everything!”

I love the work of Dr. Christiane Northrup.

Her words of wisdom  helped me through Menopause.

The Hormone -Balancing Food Program. (from THE WISDOM OF MENOPAUSE)

  • Eat at least three meals a day. ( I eat 5…my snacks are important to me.)
  • Focus on Portion size not calories.
  • Eat Protein at each meal.
  • Eliminate the high-glycemic foods as much as possible. ( I still enjoy a glass of wine with dinner.)
  • Reduce grain products.
  • Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. (Mainly vegetables)
  • Enjoy healthy fats. (avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, and BUTTER!)
  • Drink lots of water. (2 cups before each meal)

Take  high quality supplements… A great multi-vitamin and fish oil.

I do all that , full disclosure here, I have been on bio-identical hormones for 6 years. I feel good on them but I would love to get off of them.
