An incredible healing exercise.

The Anchored bridge has changed my life! Sometimes, I will demonstrate this on a concrete sidewalk. I just want to share. Try this before you pop that ibuprofen.

A powerful exercise! Squeeze,Squeeze,Squeeze

A powerful exercise!

Here is the story. 18 months I “blew out my back”.  I wasn’t doing anything. You know how that goes. I was in PAIN. I had to brace myself to roll over in bed at night. I went to 2 chiropractors, a MD for drugs, a PT. I had massages and structural integration work. It all helped to some extent. I didn’t start to really heal until I found Dr. Phil Pritting. He is a certified Foundation Trainer. Foundation Training is the work of Dr. Eric Goodman.

I wanted to find a way to take care of myself instead of being in constant rehab. Dr. Pritting taught me the Anchored Bridge. It is incorporated into every one of my workouts.  I feel it is so important for everyone to strengthen their posterior chain. (low back, glutes, hamstrings)

Here you go. Do it with me.

What does Age have to do with it?

I am 61. I am telling you that because I don’t want you to limit yourself because of your age.

I have women tell me that they can’t do what I do. The truth is that you can if you want to. 10 years ago, I could not do a decent push-up. Today, I can do a phenomenal push-up, even off the ground. A previous post:)

Here is a video to get you started on your way to doing a push-up. A push-up is an incredible exercise when done properly. I include them in every workout. It is an excellent core exercise while working on your pectoral muscle and triceps. The muscles you need to look great in that little black dress. (if that is what motivates you) For me, push-ups are very empowering. I feel strong when I do them.

I am including exercise videos in THE PROGRAM!

Give yourself 4 weeks to become stronger, leaner and more energetic.

Are you a “Baby Boomer”?

I am! I googled baby Boomer. If you were born between 1946 and 1964, you are considered a Baby Boomer.

Are you thinking about retirement? Are you wondering how you will spend your day? Are you concerned that your money will run out before you do? Have you ever thought of having your own business? It seems like a crazy time to start a business. Actually, I think it is the perfect time. I have had my own business for almost 9 years. I create my own hours. I do my business around my special need’s son  schedule. I fit it in on my terms. Love that!

I have meet some amazing people along the way. Kate's book launchDr. NorhrupMary and Dr. Oz

Confession of a Health Coach!

This is Day 13 of the October Salad of the day Challenge. Andreea Fegan of Little Bites of Joy put the challenge together. I decided to do it to support Andreea. I eat well most of the time. Normally, I don’t eat a salad everyday. I have now for the past 13 days. Some interesting things have come up.

Here goes…

Confession of a Health Coach!

Last week was my son Tom’s birthday. Thursday, I made delicious brownie cookies for him to take to his program. Of course I had to taste them.

Fancy Brownie Cookies

Fancy Brownie Cookies

On Friday, his birthday we had cupcakes.  On Saturday, we went to a football game had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in a pita pocket along with another chocolate chip cookie and a few pretzels. This was all pretty indulgent for me. On Saturday, after the football game I came home and ate a kale salad because I was part of the Salad challenge! I felt much better.

"I am 26 today!"

“I am 26 today!”

Today, for lunch I was about to eat leftovers when I realized. No, I need to make a salad.

Kale,Swiss Chard, Lettuce, Chicken, cheddar cheese, eggplant, cashews, tomatoes, DELICIOUS!

Kale,Swiss Chard, Lettuce, Chicken, cheddar cheese, eggplant, cashews, tomatoes, DELICIOUS!

I have made it easy for myself. I make a big kale salad and it can last for a few days in the refrigerator. You can clean and wash your lettuce ahead of time. The ingredients are all ready to go.

This all works so well with THE PROGRAM. I always add protein to my salad if it is a meal. I have a rotisserie chicken in the refrigerator…chop it up throw it into your salad. It makes it easy! I have noticed that I am really full because I am eating big salads.

Small changes can make a big difference. Join the October salad a day challenge. Andreea has more great tips!

Menopausal Muffin Top

Here is the wonderful testimonial. “thanks so much Mary! Yes, I feel really good since I’ve been very diligent about taking my supplements and I find that having the prepacked supplements for the AM and PM helps keep me on track, I know I wasn’t taking the recommended dosages before.  I work in special ed as you know and it can be so physically and mentally draining and I’ve been finding that my energy levels have been great, instead of collapsing when I get home I take a healthy, long walk with my dog and do push ups on a bench in the woods and some free weight work when I get home, even though I haven’t weighed myself I don’t feel as bloated and the menopausal “muffin top”, isn’t as overflowing as it was before and things are fitting better. I also believe that keeping up with this vitamin regiment has really helped decrease all the other menopausal symptoms that I’ve been plagued with like fatigue, thinning hair and nails, weight gain and hot flashes..I’m in a much better place then I was a year ago and I thank you.”

I don’t think there is much more to say. THE PROGRAM works! Would you like to join us?  Muffin top…BE GONE!

Two Birthdays and A Wedding!

My weekends are usually pretty calm and restorative. I like to get in a good two hour nap.

This weekend was exceptional.  2 birthday parties and a wedding. Of course, it included lots of fun eating and drinking. Cake, ice cream, popcorn, red wine and the decadent list goes on. It is amazing how quickly you can get sucked back into all of the sugar in just 2 days!

Small changes can get you back on track. Last night, I skipped the glass of red wine and had lots of roasted vegetables and chicken sausage for dinner. This morning, I had my delicious morning smoothie and a cup of french pressed coffee. Instead of my usual second cup of coffee around ten I had a lovely cup of Earl Grey tea.

A lovely cup of Earl Grey tea.

A lovely cup of Earl Grey tea.

I watched my video on MY PROGRAM to get it back together. I would love for you to join us. This will be your last program because it works. As you can see you can have your cake and eat it too! Is that the saying?

I mentioned two supplements to support the health of your liver and the rest of your body. It is especially important during times of over  indulgences. These are the tools in my tool box.

You can make small changes good or bad. Your  choice.

Love,Mary

“I am proud of every year and every wrinkle.”

“Ladies, look at this face and look at all of your faces, the face of leadership,” Fiorina says. “This is the face of a 61-year-old woman. I am proud of every year and every wrinkle.”

This is perfect. I don’t know anything about Carly Fiorina or her politics. My sister mention this quote to me Tuesday morning on my 61st birthday and I am so grateful for women in my life that have inspired me to embrace my time of life and all of its blessings.

It is such a great attitude to embrace your wrinkles and your age spots. Be proud of what you have accomplished and the wonderful adventures to come. I am inspired by the work of Christiane Northrup. Her book Goddesses Never Age is full of wonderful insights to live your life to the fullest. Dr. Northrup talks about not telling your age. I understand that.

Thank you!

Thank you!

Your health and vitality is so important at any age and especially as you get older. It is all about how you feel. My intention is to inspire women to  gain strength and flexibility at any age. You can feel strong, healthy, and full of energy.  Sometimes, it proves a point to tell my age.

This passed year I have also been inspired by Cindy Joseph, the model, founder of the Pro-Age revolution. She is  all about embracing your age and letting your silver hair shine. She has inspired me to grow out my blonde highlights and let the silver come through. I am halfway there and so far so good.  I love her make up skin care line Boom. I love the simplicity, one product, one color for lips, blush, and eye shadow. Here is my make-up demo  with Boom:)

I just got the latest JCREW catalog. Lauren Hutton looks amazing wrinkles and all~ I think I will buy what she is wearing:)

No Vegetables in Sight!

I am hoping to write this in a completely positive note.

We celebrated my Dad’s 85th birthday dinner in North Carolina this weekend. We had dinner under a tent. Good thing, because it was pouring rain in my sister’s back yard.  Most of my immediate family was there; no extra friends, aunts or uncles. It was an intimate party. My parents had 8 children, and there are 23 Grandkids plus 4 great Grandkids. It was the perfect  party with just “the family”.

My parents are great. They are in good health, and drive themselves, mostly Dad, wherever they need to go. They travel from New Jersey to Saint Louis, Colorado, Michigan, Texas,  North Carolina and beyond. They get interesting books on tape and off they go. I love that I don’t know where they are half of the time.

Back to the party. Dinner, was the result of an extended e-mail discussion among the siblings, of course. I stayed out of it the best I could. I have three sisters and a brother in North Carolina, so it was their deal. We had a delicious Southern dinner. Chicken breast with white rice and parmesan cheese sauce, shrimp and grits in a cream sauce, scalloped potatoes, some kind of cute little southern biscuit, and darling individual tomato cheese pie. We had sweet tea, of course, to drink, and Birthday Cake for dessert. It all was quite a treat and good quality creamy Southern Comfort food.  Halfway through dinner, I realized there was nothing green on my plate. Not a vegetable in sight. A kid’s dream come true!

The top of the cake. We are all pieces of candy:)

The top of the cake. We are all pieces of candy:)

Breakfast was another matter. We spent the night in a hotel with a free breakfast. There were powdered scrambled eggs, tasteless bacon, waffles with fake syrup and fake butter. There was nothing satisfying about the food. You wanted to add ketchup to your eggs, extra syrup to your waffle…etc. You get the picture.  You tend to eat more because nothing is satisfying.

I don’t want to be a food snob but what I realized is you eat a totally different way when the food is high quality organic fresh food. You come away feeling nourished. You can use a small amount of organic butter and the best maple syrup on your waffle for a treat with organic scrambled eggs and delicious no-nitrate bacon and you have quite the feast. You tend not to over do it. You step away feeling good.

Just to top off the trip, we stopped off at a rest area with vending machines. Pretzels and M&M’s for lunch! Last night, we had roasted vegetables for dinner and got back to normal.

Back on THE PROGRAM today!  I did my HIIT and Foundation Training. Feeling great, sometimes you just need to step off the path.

Love,

Mary
