Balance Your Hormones Day 7!

7 days in…

I enjoy a glass of wine when I go to cook dinner.  Now that I am off alcohol, dinner time feels stressful to me. I am looking for ways to make this process easy.

My friend Ivone gave me her crock pot. (She updated her crock pot. A nice ALL-ClAD.) I am thrilled to have her old one. Ivone is an amazing cook. It is great karma to have her crock pot!

10 o’clock this morning I made slow-cooker beef chuck chili. Danielle Walker’s recipe from Against All Grains. (Page 96) It is a nice easy recipe. Our dinner will be all set! against-all-grain

I have also been blending up “GOOD GIRL MOONSHINE”.  I found it on Pinterest last year when I was looking for a wine replacement.

(Google good girl moonshine. I am not sure where the original recipe came from.)

Planning and Preparation are important component to Balance.

Happy Planning.

Balance Your Hormones Day 6

The weekend! Time when you would like to indulge a bit. I am staying with it. No Sugar,  Gluten, Alcohol for 30 Days.  I will slow down and take care of myself.

Here is a treat idea! I love to saute organic apples or pears in ghee and add chopped pecans at the end. Sprinkle with cinnamon of course! It only takes a few minutes. #guiltfreeapplepie It makes your house smell cozy.   apples

The ghee and nuts lower the glycemic load of the fruit. The key is to keep your blood sugar balanced.

Happy Healthy Hormones!

Enjoy your weekend!

Love,

Mary

PS. I have lost 2 pounds. I hope I don’t find them again.

Balance Your Hormones Day 5!

I have noticed that I am sleeping better now that I am 5 days in.  No gluten, sugar or alcohol.

Sleep tips!

Try to get in bed at the same time every night. 10 o’clock is good.

Avoid alcohol.

Easy on the caffeine.

Exercise but not at bedtime.

Don’t watch the news before bed time.

Take an Epsom salt bath.

Here is my bedtime affirmation. “I am calm. I sleep peacefully through the night.” Try it out tonight and let me know how it works.

Sweet dreams.

Love,

Mary

Balance Your Hormones Day 4!

Exercise! Some people love it and some people hate it! It has always been an important part of my life. It brings me joy and happiness. I have met some many of my friends through exercise. I met Christa, my OutdoorFit business partner at a gym years ago. I have such a great community of women that come to my classes. They have become friends with me and with each other.

Resistance band training with Christa!

I am off track of the subject or maybe not. Joy , happiness and a supportive community are an important component of hormonal balance as is exercise.

Exercise is vital for health and may reduce some of the problems associated with hormonal imbalance. Issues like not being to sleep, weight gain, mood swings, and overall irritability.

Find an exercise that you love and do it. If you can get outside, even better! Are you local? Come try a workout.

Here is to Day 4!

Mary

Balance Your Hormones Day 3!

For now during the 30 days of No gluten, sugar, alcohol it is important to eat 4-5 times a day to keep your blood sugar balanced and your hormones. After the 30 days, I will see how it feels to take it down to three meals a day. I want to keep everything steady especially in the afternoon. My meals are higher in protein and healthy fats so I think the transition to 3 meals will be fine. Just not right now. The point is pay attention to how you are feeling. Everyone is different.

The difficult time for me is when I go to make dinner and I am not having a glass of wine. The afternoon snack helps and I try and lay down on the floor for 20 minutes in the afternoon. Balance is the key.

Here is my recipe for Nut Fudge. It is so easy to make. Nut Fudge is a wonderful go to snack. It is very dense and lots of calories so please consider portion size.

Enjoy!

Boom! My makeup video!

I created this video in 2015 about makeup. It is my most watched video! I create videos about diet, exercise, a healthy lifestyle and I still get new comments on this video. Me… makeup of all things:) A few things have changed in the past two years. I have gone grey and my hair is longer!  I still use my Boom products everyday and I love them. Thank you Cindy Joseph!

Balance Your Hormones Day1

I started my 30 Days of No gluten, sugar and alcohol this morning. I bought some organic green tea to see how it would be if I replaced my morning cup of coffee with tea. My tea lady Kirsten at Tea 4 U suggested I have green tea first thing in the morning and if I feel like a cup of coffee later than go ahead. This morning I got up and made a cup of tea. I am amazed that I felt fine with no headache. I did feel calmer.

Sunday is our church day. I went to coffee hour and had a very small piece of egg with spinach. I decided to go home to make coffee. My French press coffee is so much better than church coffee. I make it strong and only drank a small cup.

I feel good. My mouth is still a bit off, a slight burn to it. I have confidence it will be better. No hot flashes.

I am making Danielle Walker’s Chicken soup for dinner. I love her cook books! Very simple easy gluten free and dairy free recipes.

30 Days…

I have been off my bio-identical hormones for 8 months or so. I have been having some issues recently.  Burning mouth, dry mouth, hot flashes, overall irritability and sleeping well some nights but not others. I think it might have been triggered by the Holidays and too much sugar.

I had acupuncture this week and have started taking magnesium at bedtime. Last night I pulled out Goddesses Never Age by Dr. Christiane Northrup. I opened up to page 248.

Thank you!

Thank you!

A Word about Balancing Your Hormones.

Talk about a sign!

Sugar and gluten aren’t a big issue for me. I love a glass of wine with dinner. What if I feel so much better with out it?

Here goes I am committing to 30 days with out sugar, gluten and alcohol.

Fat Burning in the cold!

Do you stop working out because it is cold outside? Read on maybe I will change your mind.

I love this time of year and my outdoor workouts. I was a skier and it was fabulous!  My husband and I skied. We went on great winter vacations. It was so wonderful to ski all day and then go out for a delicious dinner including a decadent piece of mud pie. Once we had kids life got a bit complicated and we stopped.

I do miss skiing on some level.  I loved the freedom of going fast down a mountain. I don’t really want to do it anymore. I don’t miss all of the equipment and freezing on chair lifts.

I still love winter, snow and being outside. There are also great health benefits.

Did you know you burn more fat in the cold than the heat?  “There is clinical evidence that freezing temps can help you burn more fat. According to a 2014 study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, contending with the cold can help encourage your body to turn white fat — the kind lurking in trouble spots like your belly and thighs — into brown fat, which helps your body burn calories. When you have more brown fat, you’re more likely to burn extra calories rather than storing them as fat.Read more here.

My outdoor workouts  are great anytime of year but winter is my favorite.  We are finished within the hour. So Perfect!

I have  a wonderful community with  a twinge of craziness! The average age is 59 1/2!!!
