Delicious Energy Bites or Power Bombs:)

I have been having fun making Energy Bars. I would like to come up with a better name than Energy Bars. Any suggestions?

I think I got it.

Power Bombs…packed with nutrients and loaded with flavor!  ” BAM!!!” said Thomas.

So many of the recipes out there have way too much sugar. You might not think there is much but many recipes call for bananas, raisins, dates, dried apricots and maple syrup. A ton of sugar!

I am posting my latest creation. Look at how much I can pack into an inch square of food. They remind me of FUDGE.  They are easy to make. I am not overly concerned by measurements. Close enough is good enough for me.

You can pack a lot of delicious nutrients into an inch of food!

Recipe made into balls.

Recipe made into balls.

Here goes…

1 1/2 cups of raw mixed nuts and seeds.

1/4 cup raisins (optional) reduces the amount of sugar if you skip the raisins.

1/2 cup unsweetened nut butter (I used cashew butter.)

1 tsp maple extract (vanilla is fine too. I love the maple.)

1/4 cup of unsweetened coconut

1 TBS cinnamon

1 TBS pumpkin pie spice

1/4 cup coconut oil

Squirt of organic stevia. (I like Trader Joe’s.)

3 scoops of Protein Powder. ( I love Nutrimeal Free.) FIND YOUR NUTRIMEAL FREE HERE.  #fitandfabulous

Pulverize the nuts and raisins. I use a vita mix. I don’t have a food processor.

BiG NEWS! I made the squares without the vitamix. I just chopped the nuts and raisins with a knife and it came out great! CHunky and Delicious! No equipment necessary. I like that!

Another Update…Today I made the squares from chopped raw walnuts from Trader Joes. I threw the raisins in whole. They came out great. It just gets easier and easier. No reason to be eating junk food when you can make these! Kids love them too!

(Try it both ways and let me know your favorite.)

Melt the coconut oil add liquid stevia to the oil. Mix pulverized nuts and raisins, nut butter, spices and coconut oil with stevia together in a bowl. Fold in your protein powder. Mix everything together..

I use a 8×8 inch pan lined with parchment paper. Flatten mixture into the parchment paper.  Cut them into small squares, cover with parchment and freeze for two hours.  Cut them into small portion and refrigerate.

You can also make small balls and freeze.

I don’t count calories. You must be mindful of portion control. This is a perfect snack for after a workout or if you need a treat in between meals. Your kids will love them too!

Enjoy!

Love,

Mary

SHMEC!

SHMEC!

Have you heard of it? It sounds like a swear word, some kind of smack down. Right?

According to Dr. Jonny Bowden,  SHMEC- ” the MOST POWERFUL BIO FEEDBACK SIGNALS that tell you how your body and brain are progressing during your metabolic upgrade.  Your metabolic upgrade is the process of changing into a FAT BURNER!

SHMEC stands for sleep, hunger, mood, energy, cravings.

Check in with your SHMEC daily. It will tell you whether you are burning fat or back to burning sugar.

If you are in Fat burning mode:

Sleep soundly through the night with no night sweats. (Menopausal women as well, decreased night sweats!)

Hunger will be at a minimum. You will have a feeling of emptiness not irritability, urgency, low blood sugar or a feeling of fogginess. You will be in a balanced state.

Mood will be stable. You will feel in control with more self confidence.

Energy will be consistent and abundant . You will develop a feeling of Lightness.

Cravings will be almost non-existent. You will be amazed that you can pass up on snacks that would have taken you down in the past.

Bonus Round…You will be losing Fat including that stubborn fat around the middle.

The BIG QUESTION! How do I become a FAT BURNER?

Start with the 7 Day…Feel Fabulous Program. It takes 7 days to change from a sugar burner to a fat burner! You can totally change your life in 7 days. I have teamed up with Holistic  Chef Ivone and we will  support you along the way. We also have a wonderful facebook community where we post and create a Fit and Fabulous Lifestyle together. Homemade Crackers!

Watch out Ritz! This is what happens when you become a health coach…You make crackers!

My good friend Jessica Ruth Shepard HHC sent me the recipe. So easy and they were pretty good for the first time. A little thick but still delicious with a piece of goat cheese on top. I will roll them out a little more the next time. It was so homey to take out and use the rolling pin:)

Thomas and I had them for snack and supplement time. A perfect snack, grain free, low-glycemic and full of fiber. I used pumpkin seed and sunflower seed flour instead of almond flour. Throw your seeds or nuts into the vitamix and you create flour. Pretty amazing!

Here is the recipe from Jess.

Gluten-Free Thyme and Rosemary Crackers

Prep time: 10 minutes

Total time: 25 minutes
Makes about 20 crackers
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups blanched almond flour (occasionally it’s from almond’s I’ve sprouted and blanched myself….and sometimes not  : )
  • 2 tablespoons ground flax seed (i usually grind mine fresh)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary + 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg (preferably free-range + local and/or organic)
  • 2 teaspoons purified water
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350. In a small bowl, lightly whisk the oil, egg and water to combine. In a larger bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients into a uniform dry mixture.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir well to combine. Once the dough comes together, use your clean hands to mix well and ensure a uniform mixture.
Place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper and roll out to 1/8 inch thickness. Peel off the top sheet of parchment paper and place the bottom sheet with dough onto baking sheet.
Cut into 2-inch squares and bake 12-15 minutes until lightly golden around the edges. Let cool at least 15 minutes before serving. Store in the refrigerator up to one week, or at room temperature up to two days.
(Extra notes):
if you live in a dry climate you will need the added water. If you’re in a more humid climate, you may not need to add the 2 teaspoons of water. Thin dough (1/8 inch) makes crispier crackers; thicker dough (1/4 inch) makes softer, more chewy crackers.
  • I used rosemary and thyme here, but two tablespoons of any combination of fresh finely chopped herbs can be used or even adding currants, cinnamon works well!!crackers

Do you have 5 days?

It takes 5 days to change you from a SUGAR BURNER to a FAT BURNER!

I was a sugar burner, I would say for almost all of my life, Growing up, I loved baking and eating while I was baking. Who doesn’t enjoy chocolate chip cookie dough?  Today, I am so much better. I eat a balanced low-glycemic diet, I keep my blood sugar balanced through out the day. I am good! I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner as my treat of the day!

Answer these few questions for me.

Do you crave candy or caffeine in the afternoon?

Are you often tired during the day?

Do you feel anxious or depressed when you are hungry?

Once you start eating sweets it is hard to stop? (How many of us need to throw the chocolate chips in the garbage in order to stop? Been there, done that!)

How many YES’s did you have?

Many of you, I am afraid are SUGAR BURNERS.

I have put together a Holiday Nutrition Challenge. The goal is to change you from a sugar burner into a  Fit and Fabulous fat burner. I use the very effective Reset program to get you there!

I have coached many people through Reset and beyond!

From my happy clients.

“Wanted to give you a full recap- I finished the program and feel great.  Not sure if I lost too much weight- maybe 3-4 lbs- I don’t have a scale.  I definitely feel more streamlined, and clothes fit a little better.  Most importantly, I feel so healthy- very clean, I was sleeping so well this week and some of the little things that usually bother me (TMJ pain, for example), have really seemed to let up.  I think that my body was given a chance to really restore itself because I wasn’t busy digesting while sleeping.  Also, I learned some very good lessons about how much I actually put in my mouth over the course of the day (when I’m feeding my kids, when I’m hungry in the afternoon…).  I think that I’ll be able to hold on to some of these lessons and be more healthful going forward.  I can’t say that my craving for sweets has totally disappeared, but I’ve decided to avoid all sweets for at least another week to see if that helps.
Thanks for your support and encouragement.”  Sarah
“Mary, I feel great on the program! I am done 20 pounds so far. I FEEL GREAT! “Amanda
“Nearing the end of the day five! It’s amazing that I kind of want to continue into transform. I guess I am ready to transform!!! And a big shift is I haven’t been on the scale every day. I weighed myself once because I was curious. It was a healthy check in with my scale. I was down 6 pounds from when I got back from vacation. Don’t know where I am today and don’t really care because I feel good. I packed my shakes and shaker bottle and I am off to Florida. I’m actually excited to get in my bikini and not self-conscious about what I might look like. Quite a shift I must say.” Pam

You can’t exercise your way out of a Bad Diet!

A friend came to my workout this morning for the first time. She said she loves to exercise and workout. It is her diet that is out of control.

There are 285 calories in one slice of pizza. One of my ladies announced on Saturday that she had 6 slices of pizza, apple pie with phish food ice cream for dinner! Impressive! You would need to workout for hours to burn all that food off.

YOU CAN’T EXERCISE YOUR WAY OUT OF A BAD DIET!

The Holidays are upon us. Halloween is here.

Does that excite you or do you dread it? Most women dread it. Most of us do too much, feel run down, pop too many chocolate chip cookies in our mouth because it is the Holiday. You end up exhausted and gaining weight.

The Holidays give us permission to overindulge, skip workouts, eat tons of sweets and drink way too many fun cocktails. Most end up gaining 7-10 pounds and so addicted to SUGAR! I would end up with a yeast infection in January from all the sugar in November and December. Not anymore.

What if you did it differently this year? What if the focus was on connecting with loved ones, expressing gratitude, taking care of yourself and actually improving your health. Start the New Year Healthy, Vibrant and Fit!

How would a Fit and Fabulous Holiday feel?

I feel longer and leaner!

Last spring, I hurt my back actually my Sacroiliac joint. I didn’t do anything except overused the area. I had pain and kept pushing through. Can you relate to that? Of course, I started to think oh I am too old to be doing my workouts. A person my age shouldn’t be jumping around, doing burpees, sprinting…blah, blah, blah.

I went to the chiropractor had a month of physical therapy, took ibuprofen, a few muscle relaxants. I began to feel better but I still had lingering numbness around my left knee. Do I need to accept this numbness?

I started going to yoga again and kept up with my massages. I was better but still had the numbness around my knee.

I came across the work of Dr. Eric Goodman and Foundation training. I have been doing his workouts for a few weeks now and I feel so much better! I wake up feeling LONGER  AND LEANER! It is so empowering! Of course I have incorporated the training into my 7AM work outs.

I started my new class in September. It is now a 45 minute class. I love it! I have short intense effective workouts. This morning we jumped rope for 8 minutes, 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off. My ladies are great, jump with 2 feet fast with no pitter patter, very impressive. We did 2 rounds of weight training and then finished up with Foundation Training. Everyone goes home feeling LONGER ,LEANER and EMPOWERED!

I have also  strongly encouraged my ladies to take the best quality supplement like I do. You get amazing results, when you eat a low-glycemic diet, exercises and take your supplements! THAT IS HOW YOU BECOME FIT AND FABULOUS!!!

  FIT AND FABULOUS

FIT AND FABULOUS

I thought I would be done by now!

Have you ever set a goal and didn’t achieve it in the time you thought? Of course! We have all done that. I actually don’t enjoy setting goals because of that reason. I continue to set them anyway.

In July, I posted I was in the process of weaning off my bio-identical hormones. I tried.  I was hoping to be off by my September birthday…didn’t make it. The afternoon that I posted

Do everything you can to bring pleasure into your life right now!!!❤️

I went back on my bio-identical. I slept well that night. Everything is a process.

Dr. Christiane Northrup just wrote a wonderful article, Traditional Herbs or Bio-identical Which is better?

I am SO grateful for the post. “My position  on this particular issue is the same as it has always been. Use the modality that works for you. And that could be traditional herbs or bioidentical hormones! Though different, both are good choices.”

This is my life and I want to FEEL MY BEST!

Optimal Health is a Process…

  • I have cut my coffee in half because it was affecting my sleep. I didn’t eliminate it because I love and enjoy one delicious organic cup in the morning.
  • I have added a green smoothie to my day.
  • I walk George the dog in the morning without my glasses to absorb nutrients and sunshine through my eyes.
  • I eat a low-glycemic diet with tons of vegetables.
  • I take the best supplements on the planet.
  • I choose happiness over crankiness.
Eat a ton of vegetables!

Eat a ton of vegetables!

I am a work in progress. What do you do to feel your best? I would love to hear!
