Creativity

I love creative people. They are inspiring to me. I look up creative people on you tube and Ted talk. I am interested in what they have to say. I have tried different things in my life. I took a pottery class and and made a few beautiful heavy lopsided bowls. A few fortunate love ones got them as a Christmas gift. One year, everyone received a handmade scarf or cap for Christmas. Stunning.  I had my own business Khaki & Moss where I made cute bags and also bought other people’s products and put my label on it. It was creative but not exactly 100% my own artwork.

I have friends like Wendy Cettina who create their own beautiful clothing. Alyssa Truckenbrod can make a bar of soap.  Elizabeth (I call her Beth) Harbaugh can walk into a room, rearrange, simplify and make it a work of art. Veronique of OceanRock Design can create a beautiful bag out of vintage World War 2 material.

All very inspiring, I am not sure where this is going but I know creativity is linked to my happiness. I have decided that I can clean, shine my kitchen sink and put out a bar of handmade soap right next to a lopsided bowl. That is CREATIVITY for me. Simple, Easy and Beautiful!

Health Coach Tip of the DAY!

Do something that inspires you. Plant a pot of red geraniums, clean out your sock drawer or rearrange a book shelf. Tell me what works for you! How does it make you feel?

Healthy Gut and Mammograms!

I am very motivated to take care of myself. We just had Mother’s Day and I have a wonderful disabled son that I take care of. I need to be healthy for him and of course for myself! Fit & Fabulous is the way to go!
 Health Coach Tip!
The health of your gut is so important for your immune system and is linked to so many other issues. Pretty amazing. See Dr. Hyman’s quote below.
I wanted to share:
The Healthy Gut Protocol .
  • In your morning shake add a packet of probiotic and a scoop of fibergy. I also add a scoop of ground golden flax seeds, full of fiber,Omega 3 fatty acids, and rich in calcium. I just like the Golden color:)
  • Shake time: Take your morning essentials.
  • Dinner: Take your evening essentials.
  • Take the digestive enzymes with lunch and dinner.
  • Bed time: on an empty stomach take 3 hepasil. Hepasil is great for your liver and important to take at night when the liver does it’s best detoxing.
  •  Through out the day drink plenty of water.
Here is a short 4 minute video about Hepasil.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxVddEwhLwk&sns=em
I also wanted to share this very interesting article from the NY TIMES about Mammograms.I think you will find it different than what your doctor told you.  http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/12/health/study-adds-new-doubts-about-value-of-mammograms.html?_r=0

Thank you for your response. ✨

“Most of us (including most doctors) do not recognize or know that digestive problems wreak havoc in the entire body, leading to allergies, arthritis, autoimmune disease, rashes, acne, chronic fatigue, mood disorders, autism, dementia, cancer, and more.

So having a healthy gut means more than simply being free of annoyances like bloating or heartburn! It is absolutely central to your health. It is connected to EVERYTHING that happens in your body. That’s why I almost always start helping people treat chronic health problems by fixing their gut, which is what I want to help you do today.” Dr. Mark Hyman

FIT AND FABULOUS? Is it time?

FIT AND FEEL FABULOUS? Is it time?

Here are a few questions for you to answer.

Do you find yourself unable to control your eating, especially when it comes to
sugar and refined carbohydrates?

Are you ready to let go of the bloated, puffy feeling that seems to
accompany you everywhere you go?

When the clock strikes 3:00pm do you find yourself in an afternoon haze,
unable to focus, get the energy to do anything, and wishing you could either
take a nap or stuff your face with sugar and caffeine (which you often
actually do?)

After dinner do you continue to open the refrigerator and pantry doors,
never feeling satisfied and continuing to eat until your head hits the
pillow at night?

If you answered YES to one or more of the questions above,  I can help you.

Easy, Peasy, Lemon Balls!

I am all about easy when it comes to cooking and baking. I saw a recipe for lemon balls which involved no baking, even better! The recipe involved soaking the nuts, grinding the nuts, slowly scraping down the  sides of the food processor (which I don’t have).

I like to bake with a bowl, a spoon and a few ingredients.

Here is my simple, easy and delicious version for EASY, PEASY, LEMON BALLS. They are also very LOW SUGAR and GLUTEN FREE!  It is so important to keep your blood sugar balanced. (A health coach tip!)

The lemon balls are made from nut butter so enjoy, savor and limit yourself  to one. You can always have one later…

In a bowl mix,

one cup or so of almond butter

1 tablespoon of honey

1 tablespoon of coconut butter

the zest of a lemon

the juice of one lemon

Form into cute balls, 12 or so and then roll in unsweetened coconut. I had the flakes on hand which I love, it creates more of a crunch:) Refrigerate for 45 minutes.

Great snack for your kids as well!

“I grew up on Happy Hour.”

Day 2 of my 10 day detox. I am waiting to feel vibrant and healthy. I am still in  a caffeine withdrawal fog.

On to the next part of the day. “I grew up on Happy Hour.” My dad traveled a lot for business and my mom was home with 8 kids. Can you imagine? When my dad was home , my parents would always and still do have happy hour. I give them credit for stopping and taking the time to connect at the end of the day. My two brothers still are invited every Monday for Martini Monday at my parents. It is a special group…invitation only! My Dad starting running marathons in his 50’s and his shirt was “Martini Powered”.

My parents are living well into their 80’s so God Bless.

CONFESSIONS OF A HEALTH COACH

Back to me, every night when I make dinner I like to have a glass of wine. I do try to stick with organic wine.  So sorry, but no alcohol on the 10 day detox. I debated about this program because I know of another program that allows for a cup of coffee and a glass of red wine. It sounds so much better. BUT, I think it is good to stop just so you know you can:) It is not an easy thing for me. I start feeling agitated because I need to make dinner and I don’t always feel like it. A glass of wine just makes it a nicer time.

I am so grateful that I am detoxing as a group. Accountability is a good thing. My spirit and attitude will be changing.

Love,

Mary

“Confessions of a health coach.”

I have been missing it action because I have not felt so fit and fabulous. I hurt my back, S I joint 6 weeks ago and  haven’t done a single BURPEE since. I have been in physical therapy and am making slow progress.

I have lost a few pounds during this time, probably muscle but I thought it is time to do a DETOX.

SOOOO, here goes I am giving up my morning coffee and replacing it with a protein shake. I have been drinking coffee since I was 16 years old. I started when I was a meat wrapper at  the local super market after school and in the summer. Everything would stop for a  15 minute coffee break.

So, of course I would have a cup full of cream and sugar. Delicious! Growing up my grandparents and my mother  loved  coffee with a sweet treat. My Mom still does!

I am finding that it now longer serves me but I drink it anyway. I imagine going to retreats like Sanoviv or Carmen Marshall’s Bali retreat and I think what if they don’t have coffee.  I think it is time to see how I feel with out it.

I made a protein shake this afternoon with all the right ingredients. Not bad…prepping for Monday morning when I trade in my coffee pot for my vitamix . The vitamix was something I HAD to have as a Health coach…you have seen all of the videos and Facebook post about smoothies.

Super power ingredients!

Super power ingredients!

Giving up wine in the evening will be another post.

Wish me well…blessings to you! This will be a LIFE  CHANGING Ride.

Making a comeback!

Love,

Mary

A Success Story!

Every year my brothers and sisters get together for Mom’s birthday! Mom just wants her kids there which makes it really special for her and us! Dad cooks for all of us…AND we love it!

My sisters  make an annual OutdoorFit appearance since they have flown up for the weekend. We know how to have a good time together! Squats, lunges, burpees etc.:) This year, Patty said that the workout was so much more doable for her because she has been walking 20 minutes a day since January1st…. her 2014 intention. She began by just walking and now she is running and walking for 20 minutes and she is feeling a difference! Yeah Patty, a great start and here is a easy way to bump it up abit!

A Weekly Routine

  • 20 minutes of run, walking daily
  • 20 squats 3 times a week
  • Do the 20/10/20/10 plank for 3 minutes 3 times a week.

Squats are great functional movement exercise! Incorporate 20 squats, 3 times a week into your workout routine.

Be consistent and you will see results!

EMPOWERMENT

Jane Sullivan is one of the reasons I am running OutdoorFit in the wind, rain, snow, frigid temperatures and  FOG!

My good friend Jane is a seasoned OutdoorFit athlete who had a birthday yesterday! She is the shining example of FIT AND FABULOUS…AGING OPTIONAL.

Jane has been a part of OutdoorFit since the beginning. She has embraced the exercise, a low-glycemic lifestyle with a few glasses of wine thrown in, and she takes the same supplements as many of the Olympic athletes!

This is what Jane has to say about aging!

One last thing…we have created a strong sense of community at OutdoorFit. Do you want to live a long happy healthy life? Hang with others that know how to do it!

Happy Birthday Jane!!!
