“I grew up on Happy Hour.”

Day 2 of my 10 day detox. I am waiting to feel vibrant and healthy. I am still in  a caffeine withdrawal fog.

On to the next part of the day. “I grew up on Happy Hour.” My dad traveled a lot for business and my mom was home with 8 kids. Can you imagine? When my dad was home , my parents would always and still do have happy hour. I give them credit for stopping and taking the time to connect at the end of the day. My two brothers still are invited every Monday for Martini Monday at my parents. It is a special group…invitation only! My Dad starting running marathons in his 50’s and his shirt was “Martini Powered”.

My parents are living well into their 80’s so God Bless.

CONFESSIONS OF A HEALTH COACH

Back to me, every night when I make dinner I like to have a glass of wine. I do try to stick with organic wine.  So sorry, but no alcohol on the 10 day detox. I debated about this program because I know of another program that allows for a cup of coffee and a glass of red wine. It sounds so much better. BUT, I think it is good to stop just so you know you can:) It is not an easy thing for me. I start feeling agitated because I need to make dinner and I don’t always feel like it. A glass of wine just makes it a nicer time.

I am so grateful that I am detoxing as a group. Accountability is a good thing. My spirit and attitude will be changing.

Love,

Mary

“Confessions of a health coach.”

I have been missing it action because I have not felt so fit and fabulous. I hurt my back, S I joint 6 weeks ago and  haven’t done a single BURPEE since. I have been in physical therapy and am making slow progress.

I have lost a few pounds during this time, probably muscle but I thought it is time to do a DETOX.

SOOOO, here goes I am giving up my morning coffee and replacing it with a protein shake. I have been drinking coffee since I was 16 years old. I started when I was a meat wrapper at  the local super market after school and in the summer. Everything would stop for a  15 minute coffee break.

So, of course I would have a cup full of cream and sugar. Delicious! Growing up my grandparents and my mother  loved  coffee with a sweet treat. My Mom still does!

I am finding that it now longer serves me but I drink it anyway. I imagine going to retreats like Sanoviv or Carmen Marshall’s Bali retreat and I think what if they don’t have coffee.  I think it is time to see how I feel with out it.

I made a protein shake this afternoon with all the right ingredients. Not bad…prepping for Monday morning when I trade in my coffee pot for my vitamix . The vitamix was something I HAD to have as a Health coach…you have seen all of the videos and Facebook post about smoothies.

Super power ingredients!

Giving up wine in the evening will be another post.

Wish me well…blessings to you! This will be a LIFE  CHANGING Ride.

Making a comeback!

Mary

LOW SUGAR COOKIES…Is it worth it?

I have stopped baking because I love eating what I bake. I try avoid sugar as much as possible. (NO HALLOWEEN CANDY FOR ME)

I saw this recipe and I had to try it. It is from THE FOOD BABE! I changed her recipe and used garbanzo bean flour instead of almond flour. The recipe calls for only 1/4 sugar, pretty impressive. I did use the Coconut Palm Sugar. “Coconut palm sugar is completely unrefined and not bleached like typical refined white sugar, helping to preserve all of its beneficial vitamins and minerals. It is naturally high in amino acids – has 10,000 times more potassium, 20 times more magnesium and 20 times more iron than conventional sugar.”

I used 60 percent cocoa bittersweet chocolate chips. I think the cookies  would be good with out them as well. Here is the original recipe from THE FOOD BABE…have fun with it!

Ingredients
  • ½ cup coconut oil, melted
  • ¼ cup coconut palm sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed with 5 tbsp water or 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 and ¼ cup almond flour
  • 1 and ¼ cup old fashioned oats
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ walnuts, chopped
  • ½ dried currents (optional mix in, feel free to get creative, i.e. raw cacao nibs, goji berries, etc.)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F
  2. Place the coconut oil, sugar in a bowl and stir until well combined
  3. Add flaxseed or egg, vanilla extract and stir for another minute until smooth.
  4. Add rest of ingredients and stir
  5. Place dough mixture in fridge or freezer for 10 mins
  6. Using an ice-cream scooper, scoop out dough and press each cookie on silpat or parchment paper lined baking pan
  7. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown
  8. Cool at least 7 mins and serve
